The Sun At 21 Degrees Altitude, 2012
Wood, paper, acrylic paint, nails, glue, printing
Installation in a room measuring 15 x 20 x 15 feet
The painting represents the sun at 21 degrees altitude and is installed at the approximate height that it would appear if the viewer is standing at the center of the room and the ceiling and walls are the "sky." Each twelve-pointed sun shape depicts the position of the sun on the 21st day of the month at a given time. On December 21st, the winter solstice, the sun reaches its highest point of 21 degrees at 12:09 pm and is located directly south.
